Why is it that no matter how proactive I try to be in my prayers, what I find myself doing more often than not is procrastinating? Do you ever experience the same thing? I am very well intended in my efforts, but all too often the world just seems to get in the way. When things get chaotic, I believe it tends to be our human nature to let go of God’s hand & take matters into our own hands. I’m not sure if it is the enemy trying to derail my good intentions or a test of my faith, but what I can say is…. praise the Holy Spirit, who helps me recognize this and praise God that He forgives me when I take my eyes off of Him!!
Why do we tend to wait until we are in the middle of the mess before we pray about it rather than asking for God’s guidance all along? I could blame my procrastination on ADHD but I dare say that I am not alone in this pattern….
This is an area where I am trying to be very intentional about being more proactive. If you also struggle with procrastination in your prayers, I want to encourage you to have grace with yourself. I have to remember if I could have done this on my own, I would have already. Thank God that I have the Holy Spirit inside of me to help me as I work to improve, and that my God is a loving and patient God who can see the desires of my heart! I know I don’t have to do this alone because He is always with me. I also know I don’t have to fret or worry when I don’t get it right because He is a God of second chances. He NEVER gives up on me and He will never give up on you!!
Below is one of my favorite prayers & as I write this, I pray for this for each one of you as well!
Our Heavenly Father,
Like the sea and ocean, teach us to flow with the tides of our lives. Help us ride the waves, knowing Your hand is in the midst of it all! Amen
