Blessed by ADHD!

All too often it feels like the world sees ADHD as a curse or an annoyance. On the flip side, I have even seen publications that refer to ADHD as a “superpower”. For me, I see it as a blessing from God!
I was not diagnosed with ADHD until I was 40 years old. I had been researching ways to help my hubby with his ADHD and the more I read, the more astonished I became! The articles were often describing me…. Needless to say, I reached out to the specialist to get evaluated as well. I was amazed to find out that my results were more significant than my hubby’s! As I talked to the therapist and learned more about what ADHD can look like, it all started coming together and many of the challenges I faced as a kid in school & even as an adult, now made so much sense!
So how is it a blessing? The diagnosis is a blessing with the self-discovery and self-acceptance I have experienced. My eyes have been opened to a whole new perspective! As a Christian and a regular leader in my church’s children's ministry, I celebrate the creativity ADHD can bring to my service work. It has enabled me to have a unique type of compassion for neurodivergent kids and I love helping them to discover their own creativity while also worshipping God. I also enjoy being able to quickly and easily think outside of the box to come up with unique solutions. But the best part of ADHD, is how I am able to personally worship God through my creativity! So not only do I feel blessed by it, but my ADHD can be a blessing to others as well. I pray that you will be blessed by it in some way as well!
Don't get me wrong, I still face executive functioning challenges every day and at times it can be incredibly frustrating. That is when I just have to be intentional about reminding myself to keep my eyes on Jesus! He is my only hope to stay centered in all of the chaos of this world. And regarding my ADHD, I truly believe it is very important to take time to recognize and focus on the blessings it can bring rather than dwell on the negative. It is all about harnessing it in such a way that you can glorify God & bless others!
Have you been able to find blessing in yours or your loved ones' ADHD? I would love to hear about it! Please let me know through the chat or send me an email to: perhaps@reborn.com.
